Have You Ever?

  • Have you ever wondered what stereotypes naturals are categorized?

- I am curious to know what people think of 'natural' hair. Like, do they automatically categorize us? Why is it so different to wear the hair in its natural state?

  •  Have you ever noticed how most naturals seem happier and free?

-I will not say all naturals; I can say that those that have inspired me on my journey seem to be much happier with their decision. Whether it is because they battled with their hair or just decided to try something different; they seemed free! I know for me, I do not miss the 'creamy crack' - not being able to scratch my head, burning sensations from the relaxer, and scabs!

  •  Have you ever wondered what guys thought about natural hair?

-Some guys may not think of natural hair any different as all these other styles, but I do know that there are some that prefer relaxed, straight hair. I have also read and saw videos on guys that are attracted to natural haired ladies just as much as relaxed. Really, I do not think they have a right to tell us they do not like our hair and give opinions. If so, then we should have the same right to give opinions on them, right?

  •  Have you ever wondered what people at work thought about your hair (or questioned whether you would get a job or not due to your natural hair?

-Honestly, this did cross my mind a few times. However, I went to my jobinterview (my current job) with my curly hair (which was the month before I decided to go natural) and I had no problems. Today, people express themselves in many ways - spiky hair, short cuts, multi-color, etc…, so natural hair should not be any different. However, I do try to keep it simple during the work week, but if I have a style from the weekend that still looks good - I will go ahead and wear that style to work! :)
